Nurse Practitioner Lead (1.0 FTE)

The Smiths Falls Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic is a not-for-profit health care agency funded through the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.  Our mission is to provide timely access to primary health care services in a collaborative, patient-centered approach.

We are inviting applications for the position of Lead Nurse Practitioner (1.0 FTE).  The Lead Nurse Practitioner works to the full scope of practice within an interdisciplinary team, and in accordance with the standard of practice guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario for the RN (EC).  This position reports to the Board of Directors.

Under the direction of the Board, the Nurse Practitioner Lead (NP) will work collaboratively and collegially with the Administrative Lead. Decisions are made jointly between the Administrative Lead and the NP Lead. The NP Lead is responsible for the coordination of services and programs of the clinic. The NP Lead serves as the senior clinical official for the organization and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, clinical quality, management of clinical risk, and effective management of the corporation.

The NP Lead provides primary health care services to clients across the lifespan. The NP Lead works in a multidisciplinary team emphasizing a holistic approach to health promotion, disease prevention, health assessment, and therapeutic intervention.

In addition to the Nurse Practitioner Job Description (attached), the NP Lead is also responsible for:

 

1.       Service Responsibilities

  1. Assisting in the establishment/implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and systems for all operational areas of the clinic.
  2. Assisting in the development and implementation of long-range plans.
  3. Reviewing the budget with the Administrative Lead monthly.
  4. Ensuring compliance and consistent approaches to develop and support quality assurance strategies.
  5. Participating in the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of clinic staff as needed.
  6. Evaluating performance, including disciplinary action, and responding to grievances.
  7. Serving as liaison between clinic and external agencies; as well as building strong partnerships and strategic alliances.
  8. Identifying, planning and developing new programs and initiatives.
  9. Working with clinic staff to ensure quality patient care and services are provided.
  10. Maintaining the strictest confidentiality.
  11. Receiving and responding to client complaints.
  12. Participating in professional and personal development of self
  13. Encouraging professional and personal development of staff.
  14. Developing a strong team commitment and good relationship with staff.
  15. Seeking input from health team on clinical related issues, considering all opinions and options.
  16. Maintaining ministry defined patient caseload
  17. Developing and maintaining a standard of quality data in client record keeping in the electronic medical record

2.   Organizational Responsibilities

  1. Reflecting and interpreting the Agency Mission and Values in their own work with enthusiasm and commitment.
  2. Leading and promoting commitment in others to the Agency Mission and Values.
  3. Understanding policies and procedures on employee and patient rights, employment equity, access to information, privacy, safety and health – with respect to these policies, knowing the rights and obligations of employees and clients.
  4. Oversees the development of proposals for funding.
  5. Facilitating program development and process improvement initiatives.
  6. Participating in NP community/partner teleconferences

3.   Board Responsibilities

  1. Attends and provides a report to all board meetings.
  2. Communicates well and establishes effective working relationships with Board Members.
  3. Responds promptly to Board member inquiries.
  4. Provides timely and useful advice to Board members as required.
  5. Communicates decisions of the Board in a timely and effective manner.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

Understanding of the health care system as it relates to Eastern Ontario Knowledge of primary health care systems and primary care models

   Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizing skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Health Services and other legislation pertaining to servicing
  • Ability to translate relevant legislation into policies and procedures

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Satisfactory Criminal Records Search
  2. Ability to work flexible hours and travel as determined by the Board in relation to service requirements.
  3. Must possess a Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle.

Maximum salary: $132,178 per annum, includes employee benefit plan and RRSP
